The Printing Technologists Forum was established in the year 1981. A thought of Late Mr.V.S.Krishnamurty a revered teacher and an academic administrator was the genesis of this forum. With the active involvement of Mr.R.Narayanan, the Consultant, Mr.K.Murali Rao, Proprietor M/s. Eveready Printers, Mr.Namasivayam, Proprietor, M/s. Colour International, Mr.Ramaswamy, M.D., M/s. United Printers Syndicate Pvt. Ltd., Mr.Raj Krishnan, Senior Executive, M/s. T.T.Maps & Publications, and Mr.T.S.Babu, Proprietor, M/s. Venkateswara Press, the Forum came into being.
True to the real meaning of the word Forum which is described in the dictionary as ‘a Medium for exchange of views’, the founding fathers have put in their best efforts to make this forum an all inclusive body to share and disseminate, information and knowledge to all the members. As the technology was going through rapid change, it was aptly felt that people who are deeply involved in the transformation process could enlighten their brethren. Hence it was found necessary to provide a platform for the young and old alike to delve into the realms of technological developments.
The first President of the Printing Technologists Forum was none other than Late Mr.R.Venkateswaran one of the first four diploma holders in India and a renowned personality in the printing fraternity. He was also the past president of MPLA and AIFMP. A distinguished academician, administrator and the Former Vice-chancellor of Anna University PadmaBhushan Dr.V.C.Kulandaisamy had presided over the inaugural function on 10th Dec. 1981 and is one of its well wishers even today.
To make the forum into a truly inclusive platform for the entire printing fraternity we have five categories of members namely Patron, Technologists, Associates, Annual and students.
Starting with just 38 members, The Forum became a registered body under The Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act in 1989 with effort from Mr.K.Mohan Rao. From then on it grew steadily to a total of 349 as on date.
As envisioned by the founding fathers of the forum, over the past 31years 133 lecture meetings were conducted on technical and related topics. Out of this, 18 lectures were product presentations delivered by foreign nationals. Short term training programmes were also organized.
An official journal, Christened as Forum Bulletin was started as a bi-monthly in June 1986 and it was later renamed as Print Forum. In 1999 it was registered as a Newspaper. It is the Forum’s medium of communication with its members to bring together all those connected with the Graphic Communication Industry, to share information and to record the events and activities for posterity. In keeping with the times, the journal is now being brought out in the 'e' version.
